Substrate

SUBSTRATE, as a project, is many things. It is an exploration of materials and printing techniques; over two dozen different base materials were used throughout the project, along with numerous methods of both image making and printing. As its own work, SUBSTRATE is an argument for not only print design, but for the designers themselves. The zine argues that those people are the conduit through which all design is truly possible, and no artificial substitute can replace them. This issue is at the center of the pivotal question posed by the zine: "What is art without life?"
