Letters To A Young Poet

This collection of letters by Rainer Maria Rilke details the author's correspondence with aspiring poet, Franz Xaver Kappus. In the letters, Rilke details the loneliness that is often a part of a creative's journey. He urges Kappus to embrace that solitude, as that will help him understand who he truly is. In designing this book, I aimed to capture that solitude, and the ways in which the act of being alone can nurture the soul. I heavily feature Kappus' sonnet, the only account in the book which was actually written by the titular 'young poet'. The sonnet details Kappus' feelings of solitude, and his yearning for connection, and I feel the poem beautifully reflects the central message of the book as a whole.
